History

In 2005, Scott Burke and Tom Moore teamed together to develop a contextualized mathematics and Career and Technical Education (CTE) course.  After spending sixteen months in development, the Geometry in Construction program was successfully launched with a cohort of 80 students.  Since the inaugural year, thousands of students have benefitted from learning how mathematics is used in construction and other CTE areas at over 150 high schools nationwide.   Current projects include:
  • Maintaining excellence in the Geometry in Construction program at our home high school
  • Aiding other school districts in the successful replication of the Geometry in Construction program
  • Leading training opportunities in contextual lesson development.

Where are we going

Our current project is facilitating the successful implementation of the  Algebra 1 in Manufacturing Processes, Entrepreneurship and Design (AMPED) program.  Additional teachers involved in creating the AMPED program include Anne Larson and Alex Adkisson.  Lara Crisp joined our team in the fall of 2014 co-teaching both the Geometry in Construction and AMPED programs.
